First Team Discussion – Brainstorming the Nightmare:
Every great film begins with an idea—and that idea often starts with a conversation, a whiteboard, and a flood of creativity. Our team held the first official discussion for our film opening Senistor Side, and it was packed with excitement, debate, and a whole lot of brainstorming.
Here’s a breakdown of how we built the foundation of our project.
Team Meeting Objectives
We gathered to:
Decide on the genre for our film opening.
Brainstorm narrative ideas.
Assign initial production roles.
Discuss themes, tone, and inspirations.
With notebooks, laptops, and coffee in hand, we dived into creative mode.
Choosing Our Genre
We explored several genres:
Horror – Intense, fear-driven, but cliché if not handled well.
Psychological Thriller – More complex, focuses on mind games and suspense.
Mystery/Crime – Good for intrigue, but needs a strong setup.
After discussion, we all agreed on Thriller—it offered the perfect balance of tension, fear, and mystery, without relying solely on horror tropes. We wanted to keep the audience on edge, but also engaged with deeper themes.
Idea Pitching: The Birth of Senistor Side
Each team member pitched ideas. The one that stood out and grabbed everyone's attention was a concept I pitched about a group of friends who are mysteriously killed, with one survivor returning 20 years later to uncover the truth.
Why We Chose This Idea
Emotionally powerful: Focus on survivor’s trauma and memory.
Open to creativity: Use of flashbacks, visual symbolism, and sound design.
Strong enigma: Who was the killer? Why was one spared? Is the killer still out there?
The title Senistor Side was chosen to reflect the hidden, darker side of people and events. It hints at something sinister yet personal, aligning with the psychological angle of our thriller.
Initial Role Assignments
To keep things organized, we assigned preliminary roles:
Director: [Your Name] – Creative lead, scriptwriter, overseeing production.
Cinematographer: [Teammate 1] – Camera shots, lighting, and visual tone.
Editor: [Teammate 2] – Post-production, pacing, and visual effects.
Sound Designer: [Teammate 3] – Music, sound effects, and atmosphere.
Everyone agreed to collaborate across roles and share ideas throughout.
Team Discussion Highlights
Sketched mind maps of scenes and mood ideas.
Listed themes: survival guilt, fear of the unknown, trauma.
Discussed visual tone: dark, moody, with occasional flashes of color in flashbacks.
Shared film inspirations: Se7en, Prisoners, Don’t Breathe, The Haunting of Hill House (for its mood and lighting).
We documented everything with photos of our brainstorming session and video clips of our pitch discussion, which we’ll use later for our portfolio.
Final Thoughts
This first meeting was a massive success. We came in with ideas and walked out with a direction, a genre, a story concept, and clear enthusiasm. There’s a long way to go, but Senistor Side now has a heartbeat.
In our next post, we’ll explore our narrative in more depth, draft our 25-word pitch, and start planning the script and mood board.
Stay tuned—the nightmare is only beginning.
